Friday night, the hubs is going out for a guys night that he has promised will have him out past our usually old-people hour of 10pm. As such I’m going to spend Friday night wrapping his presents, doing some more baking, and catching up on this blog! Until then, here is some food porn and links from my recent baking extravaganzas:
Coffee Toffee via Smitten Kitchen. This stuff is ohhhh good. Bonus points for accidentally making your first batch into coffee caramel-a very tasty mistake. Tip: I used Starbucks instant coffee in this and it was delish.
Alton Brown’s Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix. Super easy, especially when you combine (read: shake) all of the ingredients in a tupperware. Tip: Check the expiration date on the powdered milk you buy for this recipe, my first batch ended up rancid due to the less-than-stellar stocking practices over at The Giant.
Homemade Peppermint Marshmallows. (Via Martha) Homemade marshmallows are one of those super-easy “wow” baked goods. No one can believe you made them yourself and the taste and texture is divine. Not even related to store-bought marshmallows really. This recipe calls for a 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint and its perfect, I love the minty hit. Tip: I also swirled a few drops of red food coloring into the top of mine for a candy-cane reminiscent look and I think it turned out pretty stellar.
What kinds of homemade gifts are you making this season?
